How rebuilding a retail app on modern foundations pays for itself in a month

Challenge
Footasylum sits at the intersection of streetwear, sport, and youth culture, with a loyal, style-conscious, heavily Gen-Z audience – the kind of customer for whom mobile isn’t a channel, it’s the relationship. But the old app no longer matched the brand’s pace, personality, or growth ambitions.
Performance limits and a lack of flexibility made it hard to innovate, personalize journeys, or move at the speed of a trend-driven market. Footasylum needed deeper insight into customer behavior, stronger loyalty mechanics, and a platform that could scale with the business rather than hold it back.

Solution
Footasylum partnered with Apadmi – the group Droids On Roids is part of – to reimagine the app as a resilient, data-rich, high-performing commerce platform. We rebuilt it on modern, scalable architecture that sharply improved performance and reliability, enabling faster iteration, easier third-party integration, and long-term growth.
That same foundation was flexible enough to also power Footasylum’s premium sub-brand, Sevenstore, with features suited to its curated collections.
The experience was refreshed to match the brand’s bold identity: cleaner, more intuitive design, simplified navigation, and low-friction purchase journeys that cut abandoned baskets.
Underneath sits a connected stack of best-in-class platforms – Talon. One powering the Footasylum REWARDS loyalty engine, Braze driving segmented messaging and personalization at scale, and Monetate handling product recommendations. Together giving Footasylum a foundation for genuinely one-to-one customer experiences.

Results
The payback was almost immediate: within the first month, the rebuilt app generated enough additional revenue to fully recoup Footasylum’s development investment. It launched 100% crash-free and has stayed that way – 99.88% on iOS and 99.99% on Android a year in.
A year post-launch, the momentum has compounded rather than faded:
- Conversion rate is up 39% year over year, the app’s share of online revenue has grown 26.3%.
- Average order value has climbed 8.6%.
- Uninstall rates have fallen 60% from pre-launch levels.
Our Product Marketing team has kept driving visibility well beyond launch: the app broke into the Top 10 of Apple’s iOS Shopping category (peaking at #9), and finely targeted Custom Product Pages for trading moments like Black Friday beat default conversion benchmarks by as much as 78%.
